James Hsu

Transplant Type: Kidney

James Hsu is awaiting a new lease on life. After enduring chronic kidney disease since 1992, he received his first kidney transplant in 2008. Unfortunately, two years ago, his kidneys began to fail again after an infection. Since then, he has been on dialysis, and now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical to his survival.

During this difficult time, James is grateful for the love of his family, which includes his son, Hudson. His illness has been tough on all of them, especially financially. Adding to the financial strain, James had to stop working as a stockbroker, as he was unable to handle the long hours and heavy workloads due to dialysis’s effects on his body and time. While he has continued working in finance—transitioning to planning, analysis, and recruitment—James’s illness has affected other areas of his life. Because of the dialysis, it is near impossible for him to enjoy his favorite activities, like swimming, going to the movies, sports, traveling, and enjoying the great outdoors. More than anything, James looks forward to returning to his normal active lifestyle but, right now, he needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs over $335,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, James still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of James. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the Utah Transplant Fund, 3249 W Sarazen's Circle, Suite 100. Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of James Hsu” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
