In 1987 Jane contracted hepatitis C from a blood transfusion during surgery. Through the years, the disease severely damaged her liver and eventually caused liver cancer.
Doctors said a liver transplant was critical to her survival, and thankfully she received that second chance at life. September 27 of this year Jane received a liver transplant. This has been a difficult journey for Jane and her family.
She is extremely grateful for the love and support of her husband, Abe, and her sons, Sam and Dan, who have all been by her side every step of the way. Jane has always believed that being kind and helpful were the most important things in life and she is so thankful for this transplant that will allow her to live her life being kind and helping others as much as she can, but right now she needs your help.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $740,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Jane’s transplant center was four hours from her home. Multiple trips to the hospital and extended stays during the recovery process will mean that Jane incurs substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging.
