Jason Richardson
Transplant Type: Kidney
Jason Richardson is awaiting a new lease on life. When he was in his early 20’s, he was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD). Unfortunately, it runs in his family--his father suffered from the same disease and died at the age of 35 from complications, and his sister also suffers from the same disease. Jason is now on dialysis, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.
UPDATE!!!!! UPDATE!!!!! UPDATE!!!!!We have a date for surgery! 9/14/20. We are so grateful and excited. We want to thank our living donor! There aren't enough 'Thank You's' in the world!!
During this difficult time, Jason is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Tricia, and their family and friends. Jason has a daughter who will be starting college in the fall, and his condition prevents him from being the active husband and father he longs to be. He enjoys doing yard work, watching movies, fishing, and cooking, but his illness limits his activities now. Jason looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give him back his energy and free him from dialysis. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can enjoy more quality time with his family, return to work, and live life to the fullest. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $440,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Jason still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Jason lives 82 miles from his transplant center. When he receives his transplant, he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Jason’s declining health forced him to stop working more than a year ago, further adding to his financial burdens.
