Jason Smith
Transplant Type: Kidney
Jason Smith is awaiting a new lease on life. Three years ago, he was diagnosed with Lupus. It has affected his kidneys and caused them to fail. Jason is now on dialysis, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
During this difficult time, Jason is thankful for the love and support of his girlfriend, family, and friends. Jason and his girlfriend have a newborn and a toddler, and his illness prevents him from being as active with his family as he would like. He enjoys spending time with his loved ones and working as a mechanic, but his health limits his activities. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. Jason wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can live his life to the fullest, return to work so he can provide for his family, and play with his children. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $440,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Jason lives 188 miles from his transplant center. When he receives his transplant, he will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Jason’s illness forced him to stop working as a mechanic, further adding to his financial burdens.
