Mission
The ParentPreneur Foundation empowers Black ParentPreneurs, so they can leave a legacy for their beautiful Black children.
What they do
At the ParentPreneur Foundation, they want Black ParentPreneurs to see themselves as a great parent, as a great partner or spouse, and as a great entrepreneur -- to see their children inspired to live a purposeful and prosperous life because of the choices their parents made.
They want to tell the story of the transformation of Black ParentPreneurs from struggle and loneliness to triumph and community.
This is what they do.
When they started
The ParentPreneur Foundation launched in June of 2020 thanks to a generous $100K grant from Techstars co-founder and venture capitalist, Brad Feld.
Programs
Their programs include the following:
1. Giving periodic $1K grants to 10 people at a time. They've given a total of $40K to 40 Black ParentPreneurs so far.
2. Paying for mental therapy.
- They've paid for therapy over 50 people already and are currently offering it to another 50 people in July. They want to make free therapy available for anyone in their community who needs it.
3. Paying for app prototypes to address the problem of Black entrepreneurs not having friends & family to provide them with capital for the traditional first round of investment many white entrepreneurs receive.
- This program just started in partnership with Justice Reskill and they use justice-involved individuals as apprentices learning to code and transform their lives. They are testing it now with 5 people and hope to rapidly expand this program. Each app costs them $5K.
4. Paying for virtual assistants.
- This allows ParentPreneurs to grow their businesses by focusing on what matters most. The cost of this program is $1,100 per person and they've offered it to nearly 10 people so far.
5. Paying for virtual tutors for their members' children.
- This was important while many people's kids weren't doing well in the virtual learning environment during the pandemic. They have offered it to 5 people so far. The cost of this program is $1,100 per person and they hope to continue it beyond the pandemic.
6. Paying for business legal services.
- Being buttoned-up legally is important before entrepreneurs can take on investment capital. The cost of this program is $2.5K per person and they have offered it to 1 person so far.
7. Paying for LinkedIn consulting to help their members increase their social capital.
- They've paid for this service for almost 100 members of the community.
