Jeff Williams
Transplant Type: Kidney
Update: Jeff received a transplant on April 15, 2019!
Jeff Williams is awaiting a new lease on life. When he was 25, he was diagnosed with stage-2 kidney disease. He battled his illness for years, and fifteen years later, a biopsy revealed that Jeff suffers from focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS). His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no known family history of kidney disease. Jeff is now on dialysis, which takes a toll on his quality of life and leaves him very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical for his survival.
During this difficult time, Jeff is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Laila, and their family and friends. Jeff has to rely a lot on his wife, and his illness causes worry and stress for his family. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. He is ready to be healthy again so he can continue to enjoy spending time with his wife and dogs. Jeff is especially anxious to receive a transplant so he will be able to drink an entire bottle of water—he is currently restricted to only 36 ounces of fluids per day. He wants nothing more than to feel better, be more active, go for walks and hikes, and be able to help his wife around the house. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Jeff still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Although he is very tired at the end of the day, Jeff has continued to work throughout his illness. When he receives his transplant, he will have to be off from work for 6-8 weeks while he recovers, further adding to his financial burdens.
