Update #1
Jennifer Keesee Gilley
Transplant Type: Kidney and Pancreas
Update: Jennifer received a transplant on April 11, 2020!
Jennifer Gilley is fighting for her life. She was diagnosed with Type-1 Diabetes when she was only five years old. Over the years, it has taken a toll on her body, and Jennifer was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease five years ago. She began dialysis in 2017, which takes a toll on her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a kidney and pancreas transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Jennifer is thankful for the love and support of her family and friends. She has two children and one grandchild, and her illness prevents her from being the active mother and grandmother she longs to be. Jennifer looks forward to receiving a transplant that will cure her diabetes and free her from dialysis. She enjoys spending time with her fiancé and playing with her grandbaby, but her health limits her activities now. Jennifer wants nothing more than to be healthy so she can live her life to the fullest and enjoy many more years with her family. But right now, she needs your help.
The average kidney and pancreas transplant costs more than $713,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Jennifer still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.
Jennifer lives 160 miles from her transplant center, and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When she receives her transplant, she will have to stay nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Jennifer’s health forced her to stop working, further adding to her financial burdens.
