Jeremy Hatchel
Transplant Type: LVAD/Heart
Jeremy Hatchel is fighting for his life. In April 2019, he suffered a major heart attack with cardiogenic shock. Jeremy went into multi-organ failure and was on life support for two weeks, followed by a month-long stay in the ICU. Then, he suffered a stroke. In August, he went in for bloodwork and testing prior to a scheduled knee surgery. At that time, doctors discovered that his kidneys are not functioning and his heart function is down to 10%. Jeremy is now in stage-4 heart failure and is in need of a heart transplant. Jeremy will receive a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) or “artificial heart” which helps his heart pump while he waits for a donor heart to become available. Before he can be added to the transplant waiting list, his transplant center is requiring him to raise funds.
During this difficult time, Jeremy is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Dana, and their family and friends. He has three children, and his illness prevents him from being the active husband and father he longs to be. Jeremy looks forward to receiving a transplant that will give him back his energy and improve his quality of life. He used to enjoy going shopping, out to eat, to the movies, and vacationing with his family, but his illness prevents him from doing those things now. Jeremy wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can enjoy more time with his family, take part in the activities he once enjoyed, return to work, and live his life to the fullest. But right now he needs your help.
The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Jeremy’s declining health forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Jeremy. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Jeremy Hatchel” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
