Rome Jackson
Transplant Type: Heart and Liver
What if you were living on borrowed time?
Rome Jackson has been given a second chance. In 1976, he was born with a hole in his heart that never closed. He received his first pacemaker at the age of eighteen and has had several pacemaker surgeries since then. His condition continued to worsen, including developing cirrhosis of the liver, and doctors said a heart and liver transplant was critical for his survival. Thankfully, Rome received his transplant on April 11, 2021!
During such a challenging time, Rome is thankful for his wife, Sherrell, their four children, family and friends who have been by his side every step of the way. He wishes they didn’t have to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. Before his health began to decline, Rome enjoyed being a DJ at events, spending time with his loved ones, and participating in games and activities, but before his new heart and liver, his activities are quite limited. He looks forward to fully recovering from his transplant so that he may be healthy enough to spend many more years making memories with his family and friends, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Rome’s new life comes at a very high price.
Even though Rome’s surgery has already taken place, and his insurance will cover the cost of his transplant, he still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. Rome will continue to need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Rome lives more than 95 miles his transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he travels for doctor appointments and evaluations. Rome and his caregiver had to stay near the hospital during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Rome.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Connecticut Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Rome Jackson” in the memo line.
