Jerry Dominy
Transplant Type: Heart
Jerry Dominy is fighting for his life. He suffers from chronic heart failure (CHF), asthma and diabetes. His first heart attack was over fifteen years ago, and since then, he has received multiple stents and undergone open heart surgery. Unfortunately, Jerry is all too familiar with the impact of CHF as it runs on both sides of his family. His condition has declined to the point that now doctors say a heart transplant is critical for his survival.
During such a challenging time, Jerry is thankful for his wife, Laurie, their daughter, grandchildren, family and friends who have been by his side every step of the way. He wishes they didn’t need to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. Before his health began to decline, he enjoyed going to the zoo and the beach with his grandchildren, fishing, traveling, and spending time with his family, but these days, his activities are quite limited. He looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to be healthy enough to spend many more years making memories with his family, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Jerry’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price. The average heart transplant costs more than $1 million. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of his transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Jerry’s health condition forced him to stop working, adding to the financial strain.
