Jess Rago

Transplant Type: Kidney

Update: Jess received a transplant on February 18, 2020!

Jess Rago is awaiting a new lease on life. Ten years ago, Jess was diagnosed with Wegener’s granulomatosis, an autoimmune disease which caused her kidneys to fail. She received a transplant at the time, but in January 2016 that kidney began to fail and doctors say another transplant is critical.

This has been a difficult time for Jess, her wife Kristen, and their daughter, Abby, who has autism. Jess is extremely grateful for the love and support of family, friends and coworkers, who have all been by her side every step of the way. Jess, Kristen and Abby are outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy exploring new places, hiking, fishing and riding ATVs. Unfortunately due to Jess’ declining health and the financial burden of her medical care, they have had to limit their adventures in order to save as much as possible to cover medical expenses.

She looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to live life with as few limitations as possible, and without the worry and stress of awaiting her transplant.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the cost of the transplant, she still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. She will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they are as important to her survival as the transplant itself.

Jess lives over 500 miles from the transplant center incurring substantial expenses for each hospital visit. Additionally, Jess and Kristen will have to temporarily relocate to be near the hospital for a minimum of six weeks after the transplant for follow up care, adding to the financial strain.

The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Jess. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with advocacy and fundraising support for more than 30 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable NFT to provide Jess with the financial support she desperately needs.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Jessica. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Montana Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Jessica Rago”on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
