Jhamesa Brown
Transplant Type: Kidney
Update: Jhamesa received a kidney transplant on August 18, 2019!
Jhamesa Brown is awaiting a new lease on life. When she was in middle school, Jhamesa was very active in sports, and she occasionally noticed that her feet and legs would swell. Tests indicated that her kidneys weren’t functioning properly. At age 12, she was diagnosed with focal segmental glomerulosclerosis, which came as a shock due to her age and the fact that there was no family history of kidney disease. She went on a special renal diet and medications to slow the progression of her kidney disease. It worked for many years but Jhamesa, now 28, is feeling the effects of her disease. She is now on dialysis, which takes a toll on her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
During this difficult time, Jhamesa is thankful for the love and support of her family and friends. She looks forward to receiving a transplant that will allow her to feel better and be free from dialysis. When her health allows, she enjoys kayaking, hiking, and taking cross fit and Zumba classes. Jhamesa wants nothing more than to have her energy restored and enjoy a long and happy life. But right now, she needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Jhamesa still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. When
Jhamesa receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be near the transplant center while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. She had to stop working in television production due to her health issues, further adding to her financial burdens.
