Jim Crowe
Transplant Type: Lung
Update: Jim received a lung transplant on September 20, 2018!
Jim Crowe is fighting for his life. In 2011, he was diagnosed with adenocarcinoma and had a lobectomy that removed the upper-left lobe of his lung. Although he has been cancer-free for the last six years, he constantly struggles with shortness of breath due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF). Now, doctors say a lung transplant is critical to his survival.
During such a challenging time, Jim is thankful for his wife, Debra, their children, grandchildren, and loved ones. He wishes they didn’t have to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. Before his health began to worsen, he enjoyed being involved with his children’s sports, school events, and other family outings, but these days, his activities are quite limited. He looks forward to being well enough to enjoy life again, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, Jim’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average lung transplant costs approximately $861,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
Because Jim must travel over 160 miles from his home to the transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments, he incurs substantial expenses for each trip. Jim and his Debra will have to stay near the transplant center during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Jim. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Illinois Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Jim Crowe" on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
