John Alward
Transplant Type: Bone Marrow
What if you were living on borrowed time?
John Alward is fighting for his life. He suddenly became ill and was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome. John now requires multiple blood and platelet transfusions a week, and doctors say an alloegenic bone marrow transplant is critical for his survival.
During this difficult time, John is grateful for the love and support of his wife, Marni, his mother, family, and friends. While this has been a difficult time for John and Marni, it has brought them closer together and given them perspective on what matters most in life. Before his health began to fail, John enjoyed spending time with his loved ones and taking care of his pet parrots, chickens, dogs, cats, and horses, but these days his activities are quite limited. John looks forward to the transplant that will give him his life back. He’s ready to feel like himself again and spend many more years making memories with his family, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, John’s new life comes at a very high price.
The average allogenic stem cell transplant costs more than $1 million, and that is only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of his transplant cost, John still faces significant expenses related to the procedure.
John lives 175 miles from the transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, John and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital, during recovery, adding to the financial strain.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of John.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of John Alward” in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
