John Bowden
Transplant Type: Lung
What if you were living on borrowed time?
John Bowden is fighting for his life. He and his wife, Amanda, are both registered nurses (RN) who have cared for COVID patients since the beginning of the pandemic. Unfortunately, John contracted COVID-19, and was hospitalized with COVID-19 pneumonia on July 22, 2021. His condition worsened, requiring that John be intubated on August 12, and then placed on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) on August 20, 2021. His lungs are so severely damaged that now doctors say a lung transplant is critical to his survival.
During such a challenging time, John is thankful for his wife, Amanda, their family, and friends, who have been by his side every step of the way. He wishes they did not have to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. Before his health began to worsen, John was an active, father, husband, and RN who loved helping others, but these days, his activities are quite limited. He looks forward to the transplant that will give him his life back. More than anything, he wants the opportunity to continue serving others and to watch his children grow up, but right now, he needs your help.
Unfortunately, John’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.
The average lung transplant costs approximately $929,000. And that is only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of John.
If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of John Bowden” in the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
