Jorge Luna

Transplant Type:  Kidney

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Jorge Luna is awaiting a new lease on life. In January 2020, he was diagnosed with chronic kidney disease (CKD).  His illness came as quite a shock, as he has no family history of kidney disease. Jorge’s condition has continued to worsen, and now doctors now say a kidney transplant is necessary.

This has been a difficult time for Jorge, his new wife, Amalia, his two children, family and friends. He wishes that they did not need to be so concerned about his health, but he is grateful for their love and support. While he is still able to spend time at home with his wife and children, he is not able to travel to visit with family and friends. He misses having more energy and being active, but these days his activities are extremely limited. He looks forward to the transplant that will allow him to spend many more years making memories with his family, but right now, he needs your help.Unfortunately,

Jorge’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Jorge lives more than an hour from the transplant center, and he incurs substantial expenses each time he visits for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When he receives his transplant, Jorge and his caregiver will need to stay near the hospital, during recovery, adding to the financial strain.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Jorge.  If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Colorado Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Ste 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Jorge Luna” in the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
