Jose I. Gonzalez

Transplant Type: Liver

Update: Jose received a transplant on December 28, 2019!

Jose Gonzalez is fighting for his life. In November 2018, he went to the hospital because of a persistent cough. At that time, he was diagnosed with a life threatening liver disease. He was hospitalized for nearly a month due to the serious nature of his condition. His health has declined quickly since then, and doctors now say a liver transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Jose is grateful for the love and support of his wife of 25 years, Mariluz, and their family and friends. Jose has three children ranging in age from 7 to 24, and his illness is very difficult for them. Jose wants nothing more than to receive a transplant that will save his life and give him many more years with his family. He looks forward to being healthy again, and being able to return to work so he can continue to support his family. Jose is ready to feel better, have more energy, and enjoy life with his wife and kids. But right now he needs your help.

The average liver transplant costs approximately $740,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and expensive anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

Jose lives 50 miles from his transplant center and has to travel back and forth for appointments. When he receives his transplant, he will have to stay nearby while he recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Jose missed so much work due to his illness, he was let go—and he was the only source of income for his family. Now, his health has declined so much that he isn’t able to work, and his wife has to care for him and for their youngest son. The family has no income at this time, and it makes their financial situation very difficult.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Jose. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Florida Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Jose I. Gonzalez” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
