Jose Negron
Transplant Type: Liver
Jose Negron is fighting for his life. He was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease for which his doctors have no explanation. However, when Jose served during the Gulf War, he had to take an anti-nerve agent that could be the cause of his liver disease. The VA is investigating his illness now. Jose’s condition leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a liver transplant is critical.
During this difficult time, Jose is grateful for the love and support of his wife of 40 years, Jeanne, and their family and friends. Jose and Jeanne have two grown sons and two grandchildren, and his illness prevents him from being as active with his family as he longs to be. He enjoys being creative and solving problems at work and at home, and his illness has affected his ability to do so. Jose looks forward to receiving a transplant that will save his life and allow him to feel like himself again. He wants nothing more than to be healthy so he will have more energy, be able to resume the activities he once enjoyed, and watch his grandchildren grow up. But right now he needs your help.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $812,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and expensive anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Jose’s declining health forced him to leave his job at Boeing, further adding to his financial burdens.
