Transplant Type: Liver
In June 2020, Joseph began the long road to sobriety. After years of drinking , he made the decision it was time for a fresh start. In july 2020, one month into his sobriety, Joseph began feeling exhausted. Without warning, Joseph began throwing up large amounts of blood causing him to become unconcious. He was rushed to the emergency room where he was placed on life support for two weeks. It was there, when he discovered he was suffering from multiple lifethreatening conditions including chirosis of the liver, ascites, enlarged spleen, collapsed lungs and a preforated esophogus. While in ICU, Joseph underwent numerous blood transfusions just to stay alive. Doctors say, a liver transplant is urgently needed.
As he regained conciousness, tests revealed Joseph's condition was much more severe than they imagined. During this difficult time, Joseph is thankful for the love and support of his family. Joseph moved back to Oklahoma to be closer to his family, where he can recieve the medical care he needs.
Despite his near death experience, Joseph did not give up on pursuing sobriety. Today, he is activley attending AA meetings and is trying to get healthy. What Joseph desires most is to be there for his 6 year old son and his family. Thankfully, the Nazih Zuhdi Transplant Center in Oklahoma has accepted him as a patient where he will undergo multiple treatments and tests in preparation for transplantation. However, before Joseph can be considered for an organ transplant, he must raise $2,500 to cover the cost of medical expenses and post-transplant medication which are just a critical to his survival as the transplant itself.
