Jr. Apprentice now works with two schools!

Update posted 8 years ago

Our program has demonstrated success working with Bulkeley High School Juniors for the past three years! In our 4th year, we are able to work in Bulkeley High School and Pathways Academy of Technology and Design. This year, 40 students will be given the opportunity to be a part of our program and have a meaningful apprenticeship experience!

Whose shoulders did you stand on? Who will stand on yours?

For vulnerable youth, career education, work experience and a social network can be a pathway out of poverty. Jr. Apprentice provides low-income, urban teens with exposure, training and career mentorship for in-demand jobs.

As a Jr. Apprentice, low-income teens have the opportunity to “try out” different careers. Through an apprenticeship, teens gain technical skills and knowledge, receive career mentorship and learn more about what career might be a good “fit”. All apprenticeships are in industries with projected job growth. In this way, Jr. Apprentice is a unique career development and teen employment program: the focus is not on a job, but a career. Jr. Apprentice helps introduce and expose youth to these possible career paths. Local, working adults serve as employer-mentors. In this role, the current workforce is developing, training and mentoring the future workforce in their career field.

You can help make this happen.
