Transplant Type: Double Lung

Life is a gift and everyday is a blessing.

Julie Froblom is a gifted musician, friend to many and has found herself in a compromised position. In early 2017, she was diagnosed with interstitial lung disease, which is scar tissue in the alveoli. Her mother had this in her later years as well. Julie’s condition remained stable until recently when she found that she now also suffers from pulmonary hypertension. Doctors say a double lung transplant is critical to her survival. While awaiting her transplant, she relies on supplemental oxygen for every breath.

This has been a challenging time for Julie, as she is used to being much more independent and active. She is thankful for her siblings, family, and friends, who have been by her side every step of the way.  Julie has been a musician all of her life, playing many genres of music, she is a staple of the Humboldt County music community. She looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to continue making music for many years to come, but right now, she needs your help.

Healthcare is not a given in our economy and help is essential to tackle what lies ahead for Julie.

The average double lung transplant costs more than $1 million. And that is only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of her transplant, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications, which are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Julie must travel to San Francisco from Humboldt County, 540 miles round trip, to reach her transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When she receives her transplant, Julie and her sister will need to stay near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, adding to the financial strain.
