Juliet Lost Her Fight
Unfortunately, this morning Juliet took a turn for the worse. She hasn't been responding to treatment and the vet couldn't get her vomiting under control despite aggressive treatment and support. Her body couldn't fit anymore and her organs started shutting down. To prevent her from continuing to suffer and her vet recommended humane euthanasia. We wish Juliet could have had a different outcome and that she could have known the love and comfort of a home. But at least she wasn't suffering and sick as a stray without any hope.
Hugh continues his fight - still struggling with severe vomiting and diarrhea. We'll keep you updated on his progress.
Juliet and Hugh were found as strays in rural Virginia and taken in the shelter. Because of your support last week, they made the trip to Homeward Trails on Friday hoping this would be their big break. They were going to be in homes, feel secure and loved, and know where their next meals were coming from.
But things quickly turned serious for them on Saturday afternoon when both began displaying very serious symptoms - lethargy, diarrhea, uncontrollable vomiting. Symptoms consistent with deadly parvovirus. We rushed them to the vet and they confirmed our worst fears - they tested positive for parvo.
They have been hospitalized since and neither have turned the corner. They're on IV fluids and meds hoping to control their symptoms so their bodies will have a chance to fight. It's only with around the clock care that they'll have any chance to survive.
