Transplant Type: Kidney
UPDATE: October 2016
We're thrilled to report that Todd received his transplant on October 24, 2016!
Patient Story
Todf has been suffering from diabetes since 2000, and he was diagnosed with stage-4 renal failure in 2010. Doctors said a kidney transplant was essential to his survival. While awaiting his transplant, he underwent regular dialysis treatments, which took a toll on his quality of life.
Despite his health challenges, he has remained active and focused on the future. Although it could be difficult to plan because of his strict dialysis schedule, he has always enjoyed weekend road trips, scenic walks and spending time on the beach. Because of an amputation related to diabetes, he had to stop working in 2007, and he used that time to go back to school and obtain his associate’s degree in computer science. After receiving his transplant, he looks forward to returning to work and living life to the fullest. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs approximately $414,000. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant itself, he still faces significant medical expenses related to the surgery. He will need a lifetime of follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. These medications are very costly, and they’re as important to his survival as the transplant itself.
