Pupdate aka puppy update!

Update posted 5 years ago

You wonderful amazing people! We've raised the funds to completely cover the costs of this puppy! This isn't the full cost of a service dog. Multiple levels of training, testing, and supplies are still necessary to turn this pup to a service dog.

After learning basic manners, obedience training, then comes public access training and service task training. That last part by itself can easily cost $6,000-$10,000. I'm going to continue to fundraise. In this next phase, I've acted on the advise of some supporters and opened a wishlist where you can buy concrete items for the service puppy! This link is on the main page of this giving page. Financial gifts will go towards basic puppy needs, basic obedience training, and of course tackling the cost of service training. Thank you!

Costs of a Service Dog

According to the National Service Animal Registry, the average cost of a service dog is around $15,000-$30,000 upfront. Some can even cost upwards of $50,000 depending on their specific tasks and responsibilities. Training a service dog to meet my specific needs or getting through a waiting list for a trained dog will take up to two years-so I'm anxious to get started (pun intended)! Here are just some of the estimated costs:

Finding a puppy with the assistance of a certified dog behavior specialist to evaluate for the right temperament$2,500-$4,500
Insurance premium payments for the service dog$1,200 a year
Spay/Neuter$250
Preventative Medicine (i.e. puppy vaccinations, heartworm prevention, flea, and tick prevention)$300
Initial Dog Care and Supplies (i.e. service dog vest, kennel, food, ID tag, grooming tools)$450
Training in California
$6,000-$10,000
