Katrina Lewis

Transplant Type: Kidney

Update: Katrina received a transplant on October 22, 2019!

Katrina Lewis is awaiting a new lease on life. She was diagnosed with Lupus in 1995 when she was only 10-years-old. Lupus took a toll on her body, and over the years, it damaged her kidneys and caused them to fail. Katrina now faces end-stage renal failure. She is on dialysis, which takes a toll on her quality of life and leaves her very tired. Doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Katrina is thankful for the love and support of her family and friends. Although both of her parents are deceased, she has seven siblings who worry about her. Katrina is a single mom of two children, and her illness prevents her from being the active mother she longs to be. Katrina looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free her from dialysis and give her back her energy. She wants nothing more than to feel better so she can watch her children grow up, enjoy life with her family, travel without limitations, and have her life return to normal. But right now, she needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, Katrina still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Katrina lives more than an hour away from her transplant center, and traveling back and forth for appointments can be expensive. When she receives her transplant, she will have to temporarily relocate to be nearby while she recovers, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging. Katrina is unable to work due to her health issues, further adding to her financial burdens.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Katrina. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Katrina Lewis” on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
