Dear Friend:
âWhen I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, âLook for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.'"
                                                                       â Fred Rogers
At Troy Farm and Badger Rock Neighborhood Center, our helpers wear coveralls and jeans. Their hands are calloused and caked with dirt. Their muscles are sore. Their hearts are filled with love and purpose.
Our farmers arenât slowing down or scaling back. Weâre planting as much as we can fit in our fields so that we can feed more families in need.
Growing healthy local food is more than an essential service.
It is indispensable, now more than ever.
Last year, Community GroundWorks (home to Troy Farm) and Center for Resilient Cities (home to the Badger Rock Neighborhood Center) joined forces to become Rooted. We merged to increase our capacity to serve the needs of our community. Now, weâre being called upon to do just that.
Weâre expanding farm production by 25% in order to offer free vegetable delivery for 75 families experiencing food insecurity throughout Madison for the duration of the growing season. Thatâs more than five months of fresh produce. Weâre partnering with community and neighborhood centers to ensure safe and easy harvest, handling, and delivery.
Weâre rising to meet this moment and weâre working with community partners to ensure our resources do the most good. But we need your help to do it. We need to raise $10,000 by this Sunday, May 3, to purchase additional supplies and extend staff hours.
You can make a one-time gift, or pledge monthly support that will sustain our staff throughout the season. Either will count toward our goal. Your donation to Rooted allows us to continue serving our communities during this time.
In challenging times, it takes a village. Thank you, for being ours.
With gratitude,
Marcia Caton Campbell
