Kevin Barrera

Transplant Type: Kidney

Update: Kevin received a transplant on June 3, 2020!

Kevin Barrera is awaiting a new lease on life. He was diagnosed with diabetes six years ago. Sadly, he is familiar with the disease, as he has family history of diabetes on both sides. Recently, his diabetes has been very aggressive in attacking his kidneys, and Kevin has had kidney failure for over a year.  Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.

During this difficult time, Kevin is thankful for the love and support of his wife, Stephanie, with whom he has two boys, Aaron and Aiden, as well as their family and friends. Although he has to undergo frequent dialysis treatments, he has luckily been able to continue to do many of the things he loves, such as playing sports with his children and playing poker with his friends. Additionally, Kevin works for his family’s business, and his parents have been very understanding when he needs time to go to treatments or doctor’s appointments. When he receives his transplant, Kevin looks forward to being able to get back into a regular routine of working out and spend more time with his children as they grow up. But, right now, he needs your help.

The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Kevin. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Texas Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Kevin Barrera” on the memo line.Thank you for your generosity!
