In 2020, we will root ourselves, our values and our community to make the biggest impact we can.

Hi Friends,

If you know me at all, you know that I care deeply about my community.  My dream for my community is a world where people's health, joy and dignity matters more than the owning class's bottom line. I dream of a world where all of us can care for one another and be safe, seen and loved without fear and oppression. I know that this world is possible because its the world we're practicing at Clean Air.

I have been a member of the Tonawanda Coke campaign team for the past two years. In 2019 we held packed community meetings, knocked on doors in impacted neighborhoods and talked with hundreds of people, met with and held decision makers accountable and strategized together on how to win real justice for our communities. We held each other and dug deep to get to the roots of the crisis we're facing so we can set ourselves up for deep system change wins moving forward and wins now.

I took my children, Yael and Oliver, with me while we canvassed in Riverside and Tonawanda this summer. They loved being a part of our movement; knocking on doors and talking with people about holding Tonawanda Coke accountable for their poisonous impact on our communities. My six year old son Oliver came out with us twice and said to me "when you make a mess, you have to clean it up, so they have to too, Mama!". Truer words have never been spoken!

That's why I dedicate my time and energy to fighting for justice with Clean Air: Organizing for Health & Justice and my neighbors. I'm fundraising with Clean Air to ensure that in the face of adversity, WNY is vibrant and strong. I am fundraising to ensure that in 2020 we can continue to build a community we are proud of.

My goal is to raise $1,000 to go toward furthering Clean Air's mission to build power by developing grassroots leaders who organize their communities to run and win environmental justice and public health campaigns in Western New York.

Why donate to Clean Air? Because WNY residents deserve to live in healthy, strong and equitable communities. I believe in the work that Clean Air is doing, and this holiday season, I hope you will join me in supporting smart, effective organizing.

With so much love and solidarity,

Emily
