For 22 years, the East Atlanta Kids Club has provided a vital intervention in Atlanta’s socioeconomic divide by giving at-risk youth a safe place to develop and thrive during after-school hours and summer break. Our mission is to “build a promising future for the children of southeast Atlanta.”
In the midst of the COVID-19 crisis, we want to ensure that above all else the following is true:
- Our youth and our neighbors are fed: we are delivering 3,000+ pounds of food into Atlanta households each week, serving our youth and their families and other neighbors who are vulnerable at this time. YTD, we have put 87,000+ pounds, 72,500+ meals, and more than $217,500 worth of crucial food supplies into our community.
- Our youth are intellectually nourished: following a hybrid summer camp, we have returned to limited in-person after school, and we have launched no-cost learning pods for youth from local schools who are struggling with virtual school. We provide transportation, technology support, a safe, structured learning space, opportunities to have fitness and fun, healthy snacks, and caring adults who can ensure our youth are not left behind during this season of virtual learning. So far, we have kids from Kindezi West, Kindezi Old Fourth Ward, and Burgess-Peterson Academy, and the demand for more spots in our learning pod is growing.
- Our community is resilient and hopeful: we are working alongside key community partners to tackle projects such as the reclamation of public plots at the Brownwood Park Community Garden and using urban gardening as both a timely lesson in self-sufficiency and resiliency for our youth, and a symbol of community activism as the anchor for hope in a brighter future for all of southeast Atlanta.
Your generous donation will empower us to meet these immediate community needs alongside our long-term programmatic efforts to provide quality out-of-school-time tutoring, mentoring and enrichment programs with a track record of making needed impacts on youth through a S.T.E.A.M. curriculum.
