Child homicide survivor’s remains one of our most under-served populations within our community, lacking the appropriate care to heal properly. To avoid this repetition, it is important to provide intervention at an early age to children. Early interventions with child homicide survivors can foster their resiliency and reduce their risks for emotional life long difficulties as they grow into adulthood. Having a strong support system and individuals educated on how to help them, is another crucial determining factor for establishing resiliency for youth who have experienced trauma and loss through violence. The M.I.C.H.A.E.L Organization goal is to address the need for more specialized resources for children in the aftermath of the homicide, to lessen their long-term psychological impact, and to help them cope with their grief while restoring control in their lives.
