Horizons Learning Foundation - Enrichment Program

Have you been wondering how you can help support families in need during this economic and health crisis?  Do you feel like there is so much need, that it seems overwhelming?  Have you wondered how students who were already behind academically will ever catch up after staying out of school for such a long time?

There is an exciting opportunity for you to support Harrisonburg families in need of support during the pandemic.  Horizons Learning Foundation (HLF) is providing students impacted by the cancellation of in-person schooling, a safe and organized experiential learning opportunity at Camp Horizons and Horizons Edge. HLF’s outdoor and indoor physical activity learning options are viable solutions for students who find online-based learning challenging - while supporting the social, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral needs of children throughout the HCPS. 

Our trained mentors will support, facilitate and instruct students to ensure they meet the academic online requirements while also leading outdoor lessons and activities that foster resilience, help students reconnect with peers as well as cultivate empathy by being in relationships with nature and wildlife. 

Our program will be exciting and challenging for students to help meet the academic public school requirements, but with the natural environment deployed as a resource to apply  acquired knowledge and skills in mathematics, social studies, science, languages, health and the arts. HLF will establish a liaison with HCPS to support our staff and the students with curricular, behavioral, and pedagogical needs.
