Kimberlin Medina

Transplant Type: Kidney

Kimberlin Medina is awaiting a new lease on life. As a result of high blood pressure, Kimberlin was diagnosed with kidney disease when she was just seventeen years old. Because there is no history of this illness in her family, the diagnosis was unexpected. Luckily, Kimberlin finally found a job that is willing to work around her dialysis schedule and doctor’s appointments, which has been an ongoing issue. Despite this blessing, Kimberlin’s kidney disease has continued to take a toll on her quality of life. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Kimberlin is grateful for the love and support of her family. Her partner of seven years, Luis, has been a constant source of strength. They desperately want to have children, but Kimberlin cannot physically carry a child due to her illness. Once she receives her transplant, she most looks forward to having a child of her own! Unfortunately, kidney disease has also affected Kimberlin’s ability to enjoy the simple pleasures of life. She cannot wait to be able to enjoy thrill rides, long walks, and even just drinking any amount of water she wishes.

The average kidney transplant costs approximately $442,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Furthermore, she’ll frequently have to drive twenty, sometimes thirty, minutes to the transplant center, which will incur significant travel expenses.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Kimberlin. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Colorado Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Kimberlin Medina on the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
