This year Kj and I are celebrating Kwanzaa which makes this her first one and I’m wanting to make this a special one. The last day of Kwanzaa is Faith which was a hard one to find a gift for since we are not religious but my idea is Kj’s immense faith in humanity is one of the many reasons why I fell in love with her. So I am going to donate to a charity in her name for the 7th day of Kwanzaa gift. I am sharing this because I thought I’d give our family, friends and community the opportunity to participate with me if you are able and willing. Either way Happy Holidays!

The organization I picked is the National Black Justice Coalition and I picked this for two reasons. One is because Trump has defunded HIV/AIDS research to use it to detain families at the border. His administration is also planning on permanently closing one of the biggest research labs for HIV/AIDS. The second reason is I want to donate to a place that is trying to unify the black community with the LGBTQIA community. They are also in the capital where they are very involved in policies that go on there. It is important to both of us that black and other POC people are recognized in the LGBTQIA community as well as all their identities and that everyone is given the proper care they need without stigma or racism preventing that.

National Black Justice Coalition

─ The National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC) is a civil rights organization dedicated to the empowerment of Black lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer and same gender loving (LGBTQ/SGL) people, including people living with HIV/AIDS. NBJC’s mission is to end racism, homophobia, and LGBTQ/SGL bias and stigma. As America’s leading national Black LGBTQ/SGL civil rights organization focused on federal public policy, NBJC has accepted the charge to lead Black families in strengthening the bonds and bridging the gaps between the movements for racial justice and LGBTQ/SGL equality.    nbjc.org
