Paint N Sit ATL is a nonprofit organization committed to using the power of art therapy to foster mental, emotional, and social well-being within Atlanta’s communities. Founded in 2021, Paint N Sit started as a small gathering and has since grown into an impactful movement, attracting thousands of attendees to each event. Through free, accessible events, we offer people of all ages, backgrounds, and abilities a chance to participate in therapeutic art activities, encouraging connection, creativity, and mental wellness in a safe, supportive environment.
The importance of our work is deeply rooted in the profound impact that art therapy has on mental health. Art therapy, as numerous studies have shown, reduces stress, alleviates symptoms of anxiety and depression, and fosters resilience in individuals facing emotional or mental health challenges. For those who may not feel comfortable discussing their struggles openly, art becomes a voice—a way to express complex emotions that words may not capture. Through painting, drawing, and creating, participants can process emotions, release tension, and find a renewed sense of self.
At Paint N Sit, our approach emphasizes inclusivity and accessibility. We believe that art therapy should be available to everyone, regardless of their financial situation or background. Our events provide all necessary materials—paints, canvases, brushes, and more—allowing participants to focus solely on their creative experience without worrying about the cost. With free admission, we strive to break down barriers that might prevent individuals from accessing mental health resources and community support.
In addition to individual benefits, Paint N Sit events promote community healing. By creating a shared space where people from all walks of life can come together, we foster a sense of belonging and mutual understanding that strengthens the community as a whole. Our large-scale events in Atlanta’s iconic spots, like Old Fourth Ward Skatepark, allow people to connect, share, and create together. These moments of unity are crucial, particularly in times when communities may feel divided or individuals may feel isolated. Art bridges these divides, bringing people closer and fostering empathy and support across cultural and social lines.
Our impact extends beyond individual events. Paint N Sit works with local partners, including schools, colleges, and community organizations, to expand access to art therapy for young people, students, and underserved populations. Through partnerships with schools such as Spelman, Morehouse, and Georgia Tech, we have been able to reach students in environments where mental health support is vital. Additionally, with partnerships with Atlanta city officials and local organizations, we aim to enhance community wellness on a broader scale.
The demand for mental health services and safe, healing spaces in our community is evident, with over 3,000 attendees participating in some of our recent events. However, to meet this growing need, we rely on the generosity of supporters like you. Your contributions enable us to purchase art supplies, rent venues, provide stipends for volunteers, and continue hosting events that promote wellness and connection. Every donation helps us bring the transformative power of art therapy to more people, supporting a healthier, more connected Atlanta.
