Kona is a 1.5 year old pittie rescue. We adopted kona at about 4 months old. Her litter was found in a ditch in Yakima Washington. She was the last to be cleared by the vet as her system was taking longer to battle the respritory infection all the puppies had. When she was finally cleared for adoption my husband drove 2.5 hrs to get her. Upon getting she was already vaccinated for tge year and spayed etc, really no reason to take her to the vet. Well, Kona has always had kinda a winky walk, we just kinda figured it was a weird quirk especially since she is a puppy still growing etc. Well at her 1 year check up it was suggested to get x-rays of her knees and elbows. So we did as recommended. The X-ray showed that Kona has ruptured Cranial cruciate ligaments, medial luxating patella in both kneesand elbow dysplasia in both elbows. Unfortunately being a bionic dog really isn't an option and we try to manage her elbow dysplasia with joint suppliments and bi-wwekly acupuncture, which addresses all issues. However with both her knees being basically deformed, her right leg is very bowed. It is required at minimum. Kona get surgery on her right leg as it is the worst. We have an acl brace for her as you can see in the photo to assist when she goes potty etc. It helps to keep her knees straight. The cost for the surgery ranges in variety. Our Vet and myself have been searching since Nov and pricing different vets in our region that are within a manageable distance for a surgeon that can do the Tplo surgery she needs. The cheapest we have found is Arlington Vet Hospital in Arlington Washington, they charge around 6K which is the cheapest we have found thus far by quite a bit. Kone will of course require updated xrays prior to the surgery. We have been trying to save for her surgery, but 6-7K is a lot and life has been life the last few years. So I am looking and searching for ways to help our piggy puppy live her happiest life. She is the sweetest pittie puppy who is always happy and continues to defy all odds and just be the sweetest dog ever. Thank you for reading our story.
