Waterbury Area Anti-Racism Coalition is raising money for the Education Justice Coalition because we believe their work is essential for Vermont schools.
The Coalition received $20,000 grant from the Vermont Community Foundation to help implement Act 1, the Ethnic Studies and Social Equity Working Group Law. Now they need your help to raise $60,000 total in 30 Days! To make ethnic studies a reality in Vermont we are raising money to hire an Act 1 Education Justice Organizer and to sustain our amazing Coalition Coordinator.
Can you donate $500, $250, $100, $50 or $25 by July 30th to fund this crucial work? (WAARC's fundraiser is open through August 31). Any amount makes a huge difference. Donations are tax deductible!
As attacks on the Critical Race Theory boogeyman sweep across our country and Vermont we need more than ever to stay focused on our vision for change. Act 1 has the potential to transform our education landscape by updating educational standards to fully recognize the history, contributions, and perspectives of BIPOC, Disability Justice and LGBTIQ+ communities for the benefit of all Vermonters. This is a time sensitive request because the Act 1 Working Group needs our support this summer to gather community input and engage in community outreach. Please donate and share our fundraiser to support this work.
Here is the work your donation will help support:
Supporting Grassroots Education Justice Organizing: We create convening spaces for networking, offer training and tools, and lift up the voices of local organizers.
Police Out of Schools Coalition: We lead a Coalition of statewide and local social justice organizations to support folks removing police from schools and transitioning to restorative justice.
Community Response Team: In partnership with other organization leaders, we directly support students and their families in cases of school injustice.
Implementing Act 1: We support the Act 1 Working Group in gathering community input and lifting up ethnic studies in Vermont schools.
