Help raise awareness of placenta accreta, a severe pregnancy complication

$500 goal

Most of you know that I was diagnosed with placenta Percreta at 16 weeks pregnant. The doctors told me to terminate the pregnancy. I would still lose my uterus, but my chances of survival were higher and I wouldn’t have the concern of a severely premature baby. I decided to continue the pregnancy and the worst case scenario happened. I started bleeding and was placed on hospital bed rest for over a month. I continued to bleed, my uterus invaded my bladder and if things couldn’t get worse my placenta started to abrupt at 28 weeks. That morning my doctor said he was delivering now, as there was a risk we would lose the baby. My surgery was 10 hours, I received many blood transfusions, had bladder reconstruction and delivered the most beautiful, strong, amazing little fighter. 2lb 10oz and a rockstar from her first cry. We are the lucky ones.

Placenta accreta is a pregnancy condition in which the placenta attaches too deeply into the wall of the uterus. The risk for developing accreta increases with each c-section or uterine surgery. Placenta accreta puts the mother at risk of severe blood loss and other complications. The rates of maternal death, transfusion, prolonged hospital stay and hysterectomy are all increased for women with accreta.

I am participating to bring attention to this life-threatening pregnancy condition that currently affects 1 in 272 births. Please donate and support my efforts to raise funds for National Accreta Foundation.
