In 2006, a man by the name of Dr. Harry Roberts was diagnosed with ALS, more commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. Dr. Roberts was the superintendent of the Caesar Rodney School District in Kent County, Delaware. He was beloved by all that knew him and one of the most well-respected human beings in and around the community. His dedication to upholding the well-being of the students of the school district could never be matched.

It is with that reason why a small group of marketing students and their teacher from Caesar Rodney High School, in the fall of 2006, decided to raise awareness for ALS, in Honor of Dr. Roberts. The event became known as "Laps of Love: Riders Walk for ALS". Google it and you'll be impressed by what was accomplished. You'll see the newspaper article that talks about how these passionate students and their even more passionate teacher raised over $100,000 to go towards research to finding a cure for ALS. Just let that marinate: $100,000 in a three year span. For awareness, I was one of those students. My classmates and I would spend our time in class making calls to dozens of organizations a day in order to find donors so that one day we could find a cure; so that one day, people won't have to suffer from such a heartbreaking and life changing disease.

The last Walk was held in November of 2008. Recently, social media has been overran with people posting images and videos with hashtags of #TenYearChallenge. It's gone viral. Because of this, I've decided that this would be a perfect time to try a Ten Year Challenge of my own. I've called for the assistance of my old marketing classmates and our teacher and now I call upon all of you.

On March 16, 2019, there will be a virtual 5K walk/run to raise awareness and donations for ALS research. Virtual basically means you can do the 5K however you'd like. It could be done walking/running outside or walking/running on a treadmill, as long as you do the full 5 kilometers. The other thing I ask is that you post pictures or videos or send them to my email and I will post them on social media with the hashtag of #LapsofLoveTenYearChallenge. In 2008 social media wasn't as big as it is today. Let's use the fact that everyone has some sort of social media account to put the word out there about the ALS Hope Foundation and raise awareness. Let's make it so that one day, no one has to suffer.
