SUPPORT CANDLE FOR "GIVE OUT DAY!"

***Benefiting Common Threads Youth Empowerment Retreat***

 

Common Threads gathers over 100 high school students for 3 days of workshops, community building and leadership training. Often times, for many of our youth, this is the only space where they feel comfortable being who they are.

 

Common Threads' strives to nurture and empower LGBTQ youth and allies to live healthy, happy and fulfilling lives. Because of the support we offer, these youth can make positive changes in their families, schools and communities, improving the cultural climate for everyone they touch and making them safer for other LGBTQ people!

 

For each youth to attend, it costs $175.00. That covers everything for youth, including rooms, meals, snacks, and supplies for workshops and activities. Many of our youth require scholarships because of financial hardship, which we do our best to provide. Your help will enable more youth to attend our retreat!

Beyond Common Threads, CANDLE empowers LGBTQ youth through:

 

• ·         TRUST- A weekly supportive & educational group.
• ·         The Trans Youth Group - A monthly meeting for transgender and gender non-conforming youth.
• ·         The Leadership Project which gets young LGBTQ adults involved in the Rockland LGBTQ community.
• ·         Assistance & support of Gay-Straight Alliances (GSAs) in schools.
• ·         Trainings and workshops on LGBTQ youth issues & cultural competency for youth-serving professionals & parents.
• ·         Resources and referrals to youth in need.
• ·         Collaboration with other youth organizations to create LGBTQ inclusive programming.

 

CANDLE's Youth Pride Initiative primarily serves LGBTQ youth in the Lower Hudson Valley region of New York State, but has programs that serve any LGBTQ or straight ally youth in the Northeast.
