Larry Herndon
Transplant Type: Kidney
Larry Herndon is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2017, he was diagnosed with renal failure. Since then his kidney function has steadily declined and he now faces end-stage renal failure. His diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of kidney disease. Larry is on dialysis, which leaves him tired and takes a toll on his quality of life. Doctors say a kidney transplant is necessary.
During this difficult time, Larry is thankful for the love and support of his family and friends, including two children and a grandchild. His illness causes a lot of worry for his family, and has been difficult for him to cope with. Larry enjoys working in his yard, gardening, bike riding, and fishing, but his illness prevents him from being very active now. He looks forward to receiving a transplant that will free him from dialysis and give him back his energy. Larry wants nothing more than to be healthy so he can live his life to the fullest, resume the activities he once enjoyed, and be able to help others in need. But right now, he needs your help.
The average kidney transplant costs more than $414,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, he still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself. Larry’s illness forced him to stop working, further adding to his financial burdens.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Larry. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the North Carolina Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Larry Herndon” in the memo line.
