Laura Thompson
Transplant Type: Liver
Laura Thompson is fighting for her life. Two years ago, she was diagnosed with end-stage liver disease. Her diagnosis came as a shock, as there is no family history of liver disease. Doctors now say a liver transplant is critical and Laura was added to the transplant waiting earlier this year.
During this difficult time, Laura is grateful for the love and support of her husband, Stephen, step-daughter Ashleigh, and their family and friends. Laura looks forward to receiving a transplant that will restore her energy and allow her to feel like herself again. When her health allows, she enjoys meditating, yoga, and volunteering with animals. She wants nothing more than to feel better and live a healthy life. But right now she needs your help.
The average liver transplant costs approximately $878,000, and that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, she still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they are as critical to her survival as the transplant itself. Laura had to stop working in sales due to her declining health, further adding to the financial strain.
The National Foundation for Transplants (NFT) is working with volunteers and supporters to help relieve the growing burden of expenses for Laura. NFT has been assisting transplant patients with fundraising support for more than 30 years. Your gift—of $25, $50, $100 or more—will enable NFT to provide Laura with the financial support she desperately needs.
You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Laura. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT North Carolina Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Laura Thompson” on the memo line.
Thank you for your generosity!
