Atravasendo Está Juntos is back at it again - conquering food instability in Pittsfield, MA

$700

raised by 11 people

$5,000 goal

Atravesando Esta Juntos (Traversing This Together), a Manos Unidas collective of Latino cooks from various countries such as Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Colombia, Peru, and El Salvador among others, delivered 240 meals to Pittsfield's vulnerable Latino families every Wednesday evening from May to September thanks to $15,000 in COVID implemented grants by United Way, The Taconic Foundation, and the Latino Boston Fund.

While grant funds ran out in September, they have been applying to new grants since! Thanks to a collaborative grant written by Manos Unidas and Berkshire Mutual Aid, Grassroots Fund of New England, Inc. will jumpstart this pivotal program in the amount of $2,300 which has led the team to start deliveries the week of February 3, 2021. The team hopes to reach $7000 through grants and fundraising  in order to continue the program through the Spring! Your donation makes all the difference! (More info below photos!)

We are proud to say this collective also helps man  a weekly Saturday market that includes 600 lbs of donated fresh organic food distributed to family’s in need living in Pittsfield MA each and every week thanks to the support of Berkshire Mutual Aid, Recovery Learning Community,  Guido’s Market, and the Berkshire Co-op Market!

“In June, Project Bread reported that  food insecurity was impacting nearly 1 in 8 white households versus over 1 in 5 Black households and and nearly in 1 in 3 Latinx households. These numbers are even greater when you look at households with children. In June, TWICE as many Black and Latinx households with children were struggling with hunger as compared to white households with children. ....In MA, where unemployment has reached over 17%, the expiration of unemployment benefits could drive these numbers up unless Congress acts fast.”

Will you help this Manos Unidas Collective continue the fight against food instability here in Pittsfield, MA?
