A nonprofit fundraiser supporting
Lee Thompson Young Foundation Inc$573
raised by 11 people
$10,000 goal
Our work is in tribute to the late actor, Lee Thompson Young (well-known as "The Famous Jett Jackson" and Detective Barry Frost on "Rizzoli & Isles"), who was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder in his late teens. In 2013, Lee passed due to suicide. His mother, Dr. Velma Love, and sister, Tamu Lewis, founded this organization in 2014 to increase awareness and education about mental health and mental illnesses. Our mission is to erase the stigma related to mental illness within the African American community, our society and abroad.
In response to COVID19 and civil unrest, we launched the "Meet Mental Health Needs Project". As a result, we provided:
- 20 individual virtual therapy sessions
- 20 parents with training in Emotion Coaching
- 9 IG Lives of mental health education content with over 1,000 views
- 15 parents with a panel discussion on grief & trauma
Your donations will fund:
- 40 individual virtual therapy sessions ($6000)
- 40 parents with training in Emotion Coaching ($1500)
- 15 virtual mental health education programs ($2500)
Let's honor the legacy of Lee Thompson Young by saving minds together. Share this link on your social media, in your emails and text messages today!
