5-years-old child suffers from brainstem tumour.

Until March 10th I was a happy father of two joyful kids with a wonderful wife and everything was just fine, I couldn’t ask for more, and I was satisfied with everything I had.

On that day, the time stood still for me and my wife when we were told that our 5-year-old son has a brainstem tumour. I think that nature’s rules are to unbalance what’s in equilibrium, from time to time.

Since receiving such news, I’ve been passing through the worst time of my life, and it looks like a nightmare I can hardly wake up from, and it will mark my life forever. Since bad news is not coming alone, the doctors discovered the tumour to be located in the worst possible area, which cannot be easily reached to be extracted. Due to this fact, all the doctors in Romania refused surgical intervention.

Being a parent and looking every day at your son, praying for hope not to be taken from you, it’s something unimaginable. It’s really hard to stop crying when interacting with him and banish the awful thoughts of the things to come.

In the past few days, we were just collecting doctors’ opinions on the MRI and the possible tumour type. The good news is that we have a lot of opinions from several doctors as to it being a Benign tumour, probably rang 2. We are praying they are right. Without a biopsy, nobody can tell 100% what type of tumour is.

We’ve managed to find a great doctor, in the person of Helmut Bertalanffy, director of INI Hannover, who is an expert in similar cases with brainstem tumours. This brings light into our minds darkened by pain and the hope that we may save our son.

We got in touch with his assistant and scheduled a videocall appointment on the 18th of April and we are hoping to schedule a surgical intervention after the 9th of May. The doctor is pretty busy during this period and the INI centre is full, but his assistant said we can do this at the University Hospital in Gottingen, Germany.

As always, whenever there is hope, it comes at a great financial cost. The estimated costs only for this intervention are around 70 000 euros plus eventually post-surgery treatment if needed; this depends on the success of the surgery and the exact nature of the tumour determined after the extraction and laboratory analysis.

Unfortunately, the costs cannot be supported fully by us and that’s the reason I’m calling upon your kindness to support our family on this unfortunate matter. I don’t think money should be the barrier between life and death in any circumstance for anyone in this world and that’s the reason I dare to do this fundraising.
