Liam Budgell

Transplant Type: Kidney

Liam Budgell is awaiting a new lease on life. In 1994, he was born with renal disease as a result of a congenital anomaly. Surgery was immediately needed. Since then, he has required 24 more surgeries to date. Liam’s condition has developed into end stage renal disease, and his doctors have done everything that can be done at this time. Now doctors say a kidney transplant is critical to his survival.  While awaiting his transplant, Liam has to undergo regular dialysis treatments which take a toll on his quality of life.

During such a challenging time, Liam is thankful to be surrounded by a strong support system of family and friends who have been by his side every step of the way. Before his health began to decline, Liam enjoyed being active in music and sports, but these days, his activities are quite limited. Liam is looking forward to resuming the life of a young adult. He is ready to get back to work and resume his education. His hope and optimism are why his fundraising campaign slogan is “Ya gotta believe in Liam!”

The average kidney transplant costs over $335,000. And that’s only the beginning. Even with insurance, which will cover a portion of the transplant costs, Liam still faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of his life, he will need follow-up care and anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to his survival as the transplant itself.

When he receives his transplant, Liam must temporarily relocate over 200 miles from his home to be near the hospital during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food and lodging.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to NFT in honor of Liam. If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the NFT Georgia Transplant Fund, 3249 W. Sarazens Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125. Please be sure to write "in honor of Liam Budgell on the memo line.
