Little Picassos

Little Picassos is a free art enrichment program for low-income children in Madison, WI.

Although Pablo Picasso believed, “that every child is an artist,” every child does not have access to art education. Little Picassos seeks to redress this imbalance by providing all children with the means to thrive and create.

Little Picassos provides a safe and nurturing place in which to: create, learn about art, artists and art history. Every child is talented and gifted, every child is celebrated and loved.

As research has consistently shown, children who have experienced poverty and trauma can benefit greatly by being afforded a safe space to explore their feelings, and grow their sense of self.  Art enrichment has also been shown to enhance a child’s academic performance.

How it all began: Little Picassos began as a volunteer program in association with The Road Home, an organization which helps homeless families regain their footing. It became clear that children who are homeless, or otherwise economically challenged, do not have access to enrichment classes, including art enrichment. Little Picassos aims to level the playing field for these children and their families.

Who-what-where:

Children between the ages of k-6 grade are welcome to join us.  A healthy snack is provided before each class.

We meet at the MYArts (Madison Youth Arts) building, 1055 E. Mifflin Street, Madison.

Classes meet on Saturdays 12:30-2:00 & Mondays 4:00-5:30.
