January 2023 Update

Update posted 1 year ago

January 2023 update:

Hello we hope everyone is having a Happy 2023!

Just a quick update about Lori, she recently had to visit Doctors in Dallas; she is looking into making those Doctors her primary Doctors because they more adequate and overall give better care.

All her Doctors are monitoring her very closely, due to her blood work being off the charts, she has now been doubling her IVIG (antibodies that are given intravenously) to hopefully give her some type of immunity. Since the removal of her port her Doctors have been struggling with her peripheral IV’s and are trying to find a better way that she can be administered all her daily medications, daily fluids, IVIG that is given every 4 weeks, and also routine blood work.

Thank you all for your continued support it is greatly appreciated💜

Lori Padilla

Transplant Type:   Intestinal

What if you were living on borrowed time?

Lori Padilla is awaiting a new lease on life. In 2019, she was diagnosed with small gut syndrome. Her diagnosis came as quite a surprise as there is no family history of intestinal issues. Lori’s condition has continued to worsen, and now doctors now say an intestinal transplant is critical.

During this difficult time, Lori is thankful for her two children, family, and friends. Her family has always been close, but her declining health has caused her family to become closer. Lori wishes that they did not need to be so concerned about her health but is thankful for their love and support. Before her health began to decline, Lori loved attending sporting events and traveling with her family, but these days, her activities are extremely limited. Lori looks forward to the transplant that will allow her to live her life with as few limitations as possible. More than anything she wants to live her life fully and be the active mother, daughter, and friend that she longs to be, but right now, she needs your help.

Unfortunately, Lori’s hope for a new life comes at a very high price.

The average intestinal transplant costs more than $1.1 million, and that’s only the beginning. Even with health insurance, which will cover the cost of the transplant, she faces significant expenses related to the surgery. For the rest of her life, she will need follow-up care and daily anti-rejection medications. Post-transplant medications are very expensive, and they’re as critical to her survival as the transplant itself.

Lori must travel more than 1,600 miles to reach her transplant center for evaluations and doctors’ appointments. When she receives her transplant, Lori and her caregiver will need to stay near the hospital for up to a year during recovery, incurring substantial expenses for travel, food, and lodging, adding to the financial strain.

You can help by making a tax-deductible donation to the National Foundation for Transplants in honor of Lori.

If you'd prefer to send your gift by mail, please send it to the National Foundation for Transplants, 3249 W. Sarazen’s Circle, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38125.  Please be sure to write "in honor of Lori Padilla” in the memo line.

Thank you for your generosity!
