As you may know I am going to the East Coast with my school. More specifically New York City and Washington DC. What you may not know is why I am going there. I am going because I want to make a difference, and not only do I want to, I know I can. I am going there to address the problem of overfishing. But there is more to it than you might think. Overfishing is more than just one problem. There are a bunch of different issues coming together to make overfishing a massive environmental disaster. For starters, there is commercial fishing. Commercial fishing is a HUGE issue just by itself. Then there's by-catching . By-catching usually happens when commercial fishers use big nets and run them along the ocean floor, catching fish they don’t need. There are also illegal fishers who are basically modern pirates stealing from the seas. The last big issue is that no one enforces all the rules that have been made to stop overfishing. So once you get into international waters you are free to do whatever you want. As you can see these are major issues, and I am committed to fixing this.

Right now I am in the process of finding an answer as to how. I am on a committee with my peers and we are all working together to stop overfishing. The end result will be for my group to get in front of California representatives in Washington DC and tell them why we need to change our overfishing habits. If we don’t stop we will eventually devastate our ocean's ecosystem and lose a valuable food source. I am reaching out today to ask for your support as I take this journey. I would really appreciate it if you could please donate to this cause and any amount is helpful.

Sincerely,
