3/16 UPDATE! Poor Lulu. Just when we thought her bad days were behind her, she ended up at the emergency vet TODAY for what is now a collapsed trachea. She's had X-rays, but now needs to be monitored and may need an endoscopy to fix the problem.

Little Lulu was rescued from Puerto Rico back in January. When she was first picked up in PR we thought she was pregnant but the vet who first saw her thought it might have been a false pregnancy. But when Lulu arrived in Virginia she kept growing and growing and several Xrays were done, but it was still inconclusive. Was Lulu pregnant?

In mid-February an ultrasound finally confirmed that Lulu was, in fact, pregnant and we have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of her puppies since.

Sunday, March 1 was the big day -  Lulu went into labor in the afternoon. Several hours went by and no puppies were born. Finally, at 1 AM Lulu gave birth to a stillborn pup.  After two hours of labor no more puppies had come and Lulu appeared to be struggling. At 3:00 AM her very worried foster took her to the emergency vet for help and thirty minutes later she gave birth to a healthy little girl.

After several more hours, the vets were growing concerned and had decided that an emergency C-section was imminent but they wanted to give her some medication first to see if they could induce labor. Lulu finally had another healthy pup at 8:30 AM (another girl). Additional X-rays were done and it was confirmed that Lulu had two more puppies but they were very small and not viable. They began to prepare to perform the C-section and remove the fetuses before Lulu became septic. The surgery was a success and Lulu is recovering well in her foster home and caring for her two adorable pups.

We now need your help to pay for the unexpected expenses of the emergency vet care and surgery. Can you donate toward Lulu's C-section today?
