The MAAC Network Collaborative works with high-quality foster care providers across the state of Georgia to identify stable placements for youth with high-end behavioral and mental health needs.
A recent example of the Network in action...
"Prior to COVID, the team received a referral for two siblings - who had initially been living together at a foster placement, but became separated due to behavioral health challenges. Everyone agreed that they should be reunited, but it would be a long journey to get there! The Network program supported both siblings in receiving appropriate treatment, therapy, and behavior aide services individually, while also making sure that they had plenty of contact in the meantime. Thanks to those supports, they were able to transition back to a single shared home with continued help from the Network - and, even more promisingly, a potential adoptive family expressed interest. But then the pandemic hit. To alleviate safety concerns, the team facilitated prospective family visits virtually until they were able to safely meet face to face. After a few months, they were finally able to safely do their first socially distanced meet and greet outdoors - and just three weeks later both siblings got to move in! The adoption was finalized for both siblings on November 2nd, and they are doing great with their forever family!"
41.2% of Network youth discharge to Permanency (Adoption, Kinship placement, or reunification), a rate higher than the national average.
MAAC has gone beyond for youth in foster care during COVID-19. Many young people have experienced additional challenges during the pandemic, challenges made more difficult by the circumstances of foster care. The Network has supported youth while they have had delayed placements due to wait times for COVID testing, had their adoption court dates rescheduled, dealt with the pivot to virtual schooling and services - and has helped young people and caregivers adjust to the impact of isolation and sheltering in place at congregate care settings. Through it all, the Network team has stayed connected to youth and families to make sure they get the resources and supports they need to be successful.
